Long Beach, CA (August 9, 2024) 50-year-old Nicholas Kusmich tragically lost his life on August 7th in Long Beach. Officers reported that Kusmich was riding a mini motorcycle on West Anaheim Street in Long Beach when he collided with a semi-truck, reports indicated. The fatal collision occurred near Hayes Avenue just before 5:00 p.m.

50-year-old Nicholas Kusmich, a Long Beach resident, was riding a mini motorcycle west on West Anaheim Avenue in Long Beach on a late summer afternoon. A 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer truck, carrying a shipping container, was heading east on Anaheim Avenue. The truck began turning left onto Hayes Avenue, directly in the path of the mini motorcycle, according to reports. Kusmich had no time to react and ended up slamming into the passenger side of the semi-truck. The collision threw Kusmich from the mini motorcycle, sending him barreling towards the ground.

The truck driver immediately stopped and called 911. They waited at the scene for authorities to arrive and cooperated with them during their investigation. Officers found Kusmich lying on the ground with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Officers gently placed a tarp over Kusmich and waited for the coroner to arrive at the scene.

They began gathering evidence at the scene and are working to determine exactly what caused this fatal accident in Long Beach. Crews worked to clean the crash site and the busted mini motorcycle had to be hauled from the scene on a flat bed truck, reports indicated.
