Kern County, CA (January 2, 2024) 23-year-old Taylor Camille Romine, a Huntington Beach resident, was killed in a car accident along with 3 other people, according to the California Highway Patrol. Rami Abdulrazak, age 27, from Yorba Linda, 61-year-old Gregg Ray Sauer, of Lancaster, and Ronald Eric Dene, 56, a Los Angeles resident, were also killed. The head-on collision took place on Highway 14 on Friday, December 29th, near Red Rock Canyon State Park in Kern County.

It all happened not too far from Horse Canyon Road, the Kern County Sheriff Coroner said. The deadly crash occurred shortly after 8:40 p.m. when, according to officials, Gregg Ray Sauer was heading south on Highway 14 in a Mercedes. Sauer crossed over the double yellow lines and into oncoming traffic in an attempt to pass a slower vehicle in front of him. KGET reported that a Jeep, driven by Taylor Romine, was heading north at the same time and the two vehicles collided, head-on.

The California Highway Patrol and paramedics arrived at the scene and found 4 people who were unresponsive; they were all pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The driver of the Jeep, Taylor Romine and her passenger, Rami Abulrazak, were both killed in this tragic accident. Gregg Sauer, who was driving the Mercedes, was also killed, along with his passenger, Ronald Dene.

There was a third person in Romine’s vehicle who survived this horrible crash. 24-year-old Jordan Romine, was another passenger in the Jeep, driven by her sister, Taylor Romine. Jordan Romine was seriously injured in the accident and rushed to Antelope Valley Medical Center via ambulance.

Authorities are investigating this serious accident that occurred on Highway 14 in Kern County. There are GoFundMe pages created for the families of Romine and Abdulrazak as they navigate through this difficult time.

Who Is At Fault In A Kern County Collision

Although safety measures for vehicles have improved over the years, car accidents remain one of the leading causes of severe injuries and even death in the United States. More than 32,000 people are killed and 2 million injured in car accidents each year, according to the CDC. Several things contribute to car accidents, such as distracted driving, drunk driving, inclement weather, dangerous turns, speeding and even roads that are poorly designed.

Every driver is legally obligated to avoid causing accidents. This holds even more true for commercial drivers who work for the city. A large number of collisions are due to drivers who make dangerous left turns.

If a negligent driver worked for a city, that city could potentially be liable in the event of an accident. Generally speaking, employers are vicariously liable for the negligent actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. There are a number of steps that should be taken after a car accident, such as finding any surveillance evidence of the accident, taking photos of the scene and damaged vehicles, speaking with witnesses, preserving medical records and last, but not least, a thorough investigation should be conducted.

Any victim’s family could have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages sought in a legal claim can help cover the cost of medical bills, lost wages, funeral expenses and pain and suffering. It is important that all evidence is preserved properly following a car accident. An attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what legal options you have.
