INDIO, CA (SEPTEMBER 19, 2023): 23-year-old Indio Chavez was identified today as the victim of a fatal collision in Indio this weekend.
According to the Indio Police Department, the crash occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Indio Boulevard, just east of Flower. Reports indicate that a black pickup truck attempted a U-turn in front of a Jeep, causing Chavez, the driver of the Jeep, to lose control of the vehicle and collide with a traffic pole.

Chavez was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
The driver of the pickup truck was also hospitalized. Their current condition remains unknown.
The collision caused the closure of West Indio Boulevard for several hours. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of this collision that resulted in the death of Rafael Chavez.
