Hesperia, CA (June 20, 2024) A neighborhood in Hesperia was shocked and saddened following a collision that claimed one life and seriously injured another. It all happened just after 3:00 p.m. on Yucca Street on Wednesday afternoon, June 19th, officers reported. The single-vehicle collision also caused a great deal of property damage for one homeowner as well as damaging a guide wire on a nearby utility pole.

A blue, four-door Mini Cooper was driving through Hesperia on Wednesday afternoon when, for reasons that are still unknown, the driver lost control. At approximately 3:05 p.m., in the 19100 block of Yucca Street, the vehicle veered off the roadway and hit a chain-link fence. The Mini Cooper then rolled multiple times over the front yard, officers reported. It then hit the fascia on the house, as well as the room, before it finally came to a stop.

The Mini Cooper was left in a smashed heap with debris all around it. People in the neighborhood witnessed the accident and hurried to the scene to help the people involved in the vehicle. They found the driver unconscious and trapped inside the Mini Cooper. The good Samaritans pulled him from the vehicle and began performing life-saving measures on the man. Shortly after, paramedics arrived at the scene and took over the process. The driver was rushed to Desert Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities were working the scene when they were told that there was a second person in the vehicle. Fire fighters began searching the debris and the damaged vehicle for the other occupant. They finally found the occupant under a pile of debris near a white trailer. Paramedics were ready to give medical aid to the person, but they were sadly found deceased and pronounced dead at the scene.

During the accident the vehicle had also hit a utility pole and knocked out power for several people in the area. Southern California Edison had to come to the scene and repair a damaged guide wire.

Officers are still investigating this accident to try and understand what happened to cause this collision on Yucca Street in Hesperia. As of now, they are not certain if drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in this deadly accident.
