Commerce, CA (April 7, 2024) Just after 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, a multi-vehicle collision in Interstate 5 tragically claimed the lives of two people. 19-year-old Luke Garcia and Madelynne Broyles, also 19, were both killed in this accident. The deadly accident took place on the Slauson Avenue on-ramp, according to reports. The tragic collision closed several lanes of the interstate and caused massive delays, but the real tragedy is the loss of two lives on a California freeway.
It was early on Saturday morning, April 6th, as traffic drove along the Interstate 5 Freeway in Commerce, California. Suddenly, for reasons still unknown, multiple vehicles collided on the Slauson Avenue on-ramp. 911 calls began coming in and the California Highway Patrol hurried to the scene.
The accident forced authorities to close lanes nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as the on-ramp on the interstate. This caused a huge back up in traffic and massive delays. Paramedics at the scene rushed to give medical aid to anyone in need and, sadly, found two people who were killed in the collision. With heavy hearts, emergency personnel pronounced both Garcia and Broyles dead at the scene and waited for the coroner to arrive.
Wrecked cars, debris and glass covered the roadway of Interstate 5 in Commerce near the Slauson Avenue on-ramp. Commuters who were stuck in traffic had to wait with the unsettling knowledge that two people had just lost their lives on the road ahead of them. Over three hours later, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers reopened the first three lanes of the interstate. The 4th lane, as well as the on-ramp, remained closed as crews continued to clean the scene of glass and debris.
Detectives also gathered evidence at the scene and spoke to witnesses, as well as those involved, and are determined to learn what caused this fatal collision. They are also hoping to determine who was at fault in this Interstate 5 Freeway collision in Commerce.
