San Joaquin County, CA (April 14, 2024) Tragedy struck San Joaquin County on Saturday night when a minivan crashed, killing three people, including an infant. 4-month-old David Negrete Guerrero, 12-year-old Jorge Negrete Guerrero, 44-year-old Arriaga Bonifacio Negrete and 40-year-old Liliana Guerrero Mendoza were killed in this traumatic collision. Three others, all juveniles, were critically injured in this crash. It happened just after 10:00 p.m. on State Route 120, near Manteca and west of Highway 99.

Rainfall in the area had caused roadways to become wet and slick as vehicles traveled along State Route 120. A Toyota minivan with seven occupants headed west at a speed of 60-65 miles per hour. The minivan began to skid on the slippery road and the driver lost control, reports indicated. The vehicle barreled onto the grassy center median of the highway before becoming airborne. It then slammed into the overpass on Van Ryn Avenue before falling over and catching on fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, along with firefighters and found the minivan completely smashed and on fire. Firefighters quickly put out the flames and removed the minivan door to see if anyone inside was injured. They discovered 7 people in the minivan, all injured. An infant boy, said to not even be a year old, was killed in the collision, along with three other people. With heavy hearts, emergency personnel pronounced all four victims dead at the scene and called for the coroner.

Officers found three children in the minivan who had survived but were all critically injured. A 14-year-old boy, a 9-year girl and a 7-year-old girl were all carefully removed from the minivan and loaded into ambulances. All three were taken to local hospitals to receive emergency treatment for critical injuries.
