Bonsall, CA (March 19, 2024) A two-vehicle collision occurred on St. Patrick’s Day in Bonsall, claiming the life of one person and injuring two others, according to officers. It all happened just before 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hoxie Ranch Road and Gopher Canyon Road. 29-year-old Janely Magali Bautista, a Valley Center resident, was arrested for DUI following this tragic accident.

A white Toyota Camry and a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck were both approaching the intersection when Bautista lost control of her vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. She slammed into the Toyota just east of Hoxie Ranch Road. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the two vehicles in the middle of the roadway with serious body damage. Debris and glass covered the roadway and officers had to close the intersection so the accident could be investigated.

Paramedics rushed to the vehicles and found three people with injuries, one of whom had sustained life-threatening injuries. Two of the victims were found trapped inside their vehicle, officers said. Firefighters had to use special tools to free them from the wreckage. The person with life-threatening injuries, a 53-year-old man, was transported to Palomar Medical Center. Emergency medical personnel did everything they could, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

Officers arrested Bautista at the scene and booked into the Las Colinas Women’s Jail in Santee. She is facing charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, murder and suspicion of drunk driving, according to reports.
