(Commerce, California) On October 8th, at around 1:30 a.m., a deputy crashed into a 45-year-old Tavoris Williams vehicle, causing a chain reaction in Atlantic Boulevard.

Before the collision occurred, the deputy was responding to a report of an unconscious person on the Cudahy Road. The deputy driver then struck the civilian’s vehicle resulting in their death.

The deputy was transported to a hospital after they had sustained minor injuries. The other deputy in the second vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

According to the sheriff’s department, their lights and sirens were on when they were responding to the call.

The investigation for the fatal crash is ongoing.

Legal Analysis on the Atlantic Boulevard Crash

Because the deputy caused a fatal death to the civilian, it’s strongly possible that the investigators will review Public Agencies laws to determine what the deputy driver violated. They may also discuss consequences the deputy shall face by reviewing penal codes.

Because the deputy caused a fatal death, investigators may review California Penal Code 192. This law states that if one driver causes a death, this would be considered vehicular homicide. Furthermore, under California Penal Code 193,  it’s strongly possible that the deputy driver may face up to 6 years in a state prison.

Because the driver works under an authority agency, California Vehicle Code 17001 states that  public entities are liable for injuries, death, or property. This will be regarded as negligence or wrongful act by an employee to the public entity.
