Apple Valley, CA (August 22, 2024) A traumatic rollover collision in Apple Valley on Wednesday evening, August 21st, left four people with injuries. One of the victims was critically injured and had to be airlifted. It happened on Thunderbird Road, between Candlwood Road and Mesquite Road, around 6:20 p.m., according to reports.

A white 2002 Chevy Suburban was traveling along Thunderbird Road when, for reasons that remain unknown, the driver lost control. The vehicle began to roll multiple times, according to reports, and finally came to a stop on its side. The accident left a trail of debris and glass as the Suburban laid on the side of the roadway between Candlewood Road and Mesquite Road.

Upon receiving the 911 call, the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and the Apple Valley Police Department arrived at the scene. They found the vehicle on its side and hurried to see if anyone was in need of medical attention. Firefighters found four occupants inside the vehicle. A man was driving and it was obvious to firefighters that he had sustained serious injuries. A woman and two children were also in the vehicle. They were also injured but their injuries appeared to be minor, according to reports.

Paramedics requested a medical helicopter for the man, reports indicated. It was to meet them at St. Mary’s Medical Center. An ambulance rushed him to the hospital where a Mercy Air helicopter waited. He was then rushed to a trauma center. The woman and two children were transported, via ambulances, to a nearby hospital to receive treatment or non-life-threatening injuries, officers reported.

Investigators gathered evidence at the scene and are working as quickly and thoroughly as they can to piece together what happened that evening in Apple Valley. A tow truck was called to remove the badly damaged Suburban from the scene and crews quickly cleared the roadway of glass and debris. This accident remains under investigation.
