Bakersfield, CA (June 26, 2024) In a traumatic collision that occurred Tuesday evening, one person was severely injured, and another passed away.
It was about 10:16 p.m. that night when authorities received word of a two-vehicle crash near Sawmill Road.
As it turned out, two cars were heading in opposite directions on Highway 155. A Toyota Prius was in the westbound lane, and a Chevrolet Impala was in the eastbound lane.
For reasons yet unknown, the Prius driver crossed the double-yellow lines, heading the wrong way in the eastbound lane. Shortly after, it collided head-on with the Chevrolet.
The driver of the Prius, who was a 44-year-old man from Bakersfield, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The Chevrolet driver, a 34-year-old Bakersfield woman named Victoria Gomez, thankfully survived the impact. However, she sustained severe injuries and had to be airlifted to Kern Medical. At the time of writing, her condition is unknown.
