BAKERSFIELD, CA (NOVEMBER 14, 2023): At least one person had died following a fiery crash in Bakersfield involving a trailer and a second vehicle this week.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred on Monday, November 13th, around 3:16 p.m. at the intersection of Wheeler Ridge Road and Herring Road. Emergency personnel responded to a call of a fire from a crash in the Arvin area. Shortly after, authorities arrived at the intersection.

Emergency crew on scene discovered that a trailer had crashed into a vehicle, causing it to catch on fire. Paramedics subsequently discovered one occupant trapped in a vehicle. Despite attempting first aid, this victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kern County coroner arrived at the scene to assess the deceased victim.
No other injuries or fatalities were reported in this collision. It remains unclear why the trailer collided with the vehicle. The identity of the deceased is pending release upon the notification of next of kin.
Wheeler Ridge Road was closed between Herring Road and Highway 223 for an initial investigation into this crash, including both the north and southbound lanes of Wheeler Ridge.
