Santa Cruz County, CA (August 24, 2023) A driver sustained serious injuries on Wednesday morning after his car collided with a semitrailer in Santa Cruz County. The California Highway Patrol said officers responded to a call about a collision involving a semitrailer around 5:40 a.m.
The collision occurred between a Kia and a semi on State Route 129, east of Murphy Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. A 31-year-old Hollister woman was driving east in her Kia on SR-129, when for reasons unknown, she crossed the double yellow lines on the road. A semi was driving west at the same time and the two vehicles collided, head-on.

After the initial crash, the Kia moved off the roadway and caught on fire. The Kia driver sustained major injuries from the collision. She was transported by Air Ambulance to Natividad Medical Center for treatment. The semi driver wasn’t injured.
California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision as well as whether or not the Kia driving was wearing a seat belt.
