Oakland, CA (August 21, 2024) A teenager was tragically killed in a hit-and-run suspected DUI on Monday, August 19. At about 6:30 p.m., Mardenia Carrillo Lopez, 17, was walking in a crosswalk in the 7200 block of International Boulevard when she was struck by a vehicle. Soon after, the fleeing motorist crashed into another car in the 8400 block. Alameda County officers arrested the driver and believe alcohol was a factor in the collision. LVMPD received word about a crash that night around 12 a.m. They reported that a Nissan Rogue was heading northbound in the right lane on Las Vegas Boulevard as a Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading southbound in the left-turn lane. Officers arrived to the scene at Lombardi Court and Sebastopol Road around 1:35 p.m. to find firefighters extricating 31-year-old Jessica Avila Muñoz from her Honda. She was unconscious as paramedics loaded her into an ambulance and rushed her to the hospital. Not long after, she tragically succumbed to her injuries. At about 5:53 a.m., officers were alerted about the collision on northbound I-880 at the Warren Avenue overcrossing in Fremont.
