Oakland, CA (October 26, 2024) The community of Oakland was saddened and shocked following a bicycle collision on Interstate 880. The accident occurred around 8:20 p.m., not far from 7th Street, on Friday, October 25th, 2024. Sadly, the collision claimed the life of the bicyclist.
A Toyota 4Runner was traveling north along Interstate 880 in Oakland on Friday evening. For reasons that remain unknown, the Toyota struck a bicycle. The impact threw the bicyclist, causing them to land on the roadway. The bicycle was dented and damaged in the accident.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene where they found the driver of the Toyota, waiting. The bicyclist was on the ground, obviously injured. As paramedics approached, they found that the bicyclist had been killed in the accident. With heavy hearts, officials pronounced the rider dead at the scene.
Officers had to close the freeway from West Grand Avenue to 7th Street as they investigated and cleared the scene. They are working to determine what exactly happened on that stretch of freeway in Oakland on Friday evening. They are also working to determine who was responsible for this fatal accident.
