Pomona, CA (October 7, 2024) A devastating collision occurred in Pomona on Friday afternoon, October 4th, 2024, claiming two lives. The wrong-way accident occurred on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway at approximately 4:45 p.m. 38-year-old Jose Caudillo and 34-year-old Joey Gomez were both killed in the collision, officers reported.

It started when the driver of a black BMW X6 refused to pull over for police officers on the westbound freeway. Instead, the driver sped away, leading officers on a high-speed chase. In an attempt to get away, the BMW began heading the wrong way on the freeway, not far from Kellogg Drive, according to reports. The BMW slammed into a dirt berm at a high rate of speed and then began to roll several times onto the transition road to the northbound Chino Valley (71) Freeway, officers reported. It finally came to a stop, but two passengers inside the vehicle were thrown as the BMW rolled.

A 30-year-old Montclair man, identified as Erick Daniel Bolanos, was driving the vehicle. Officers watched as he stumbled out of the vehicle and took off on foot, attempting to flee the scene. Officers pursued Bolanos and within minutes he was caught and placed under arrest.

A third passenger in the car, identified as a 45-year-old man, was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital, via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle involved was identified as a 44-year-old woman. Reports indicated that she was on the transition road in a white Toyota C-HR when she was hit by a large amount of debris from the BMW.
