Lake Elsinore, CA (September 9, 2024) A fatal hit-and-run crash occurred that left a pedestrian tragically deceased in Lake Elsinore on Thursday, September 5.
Officers responded to state Route 74 at about 9:27 p.m. that evening. A Nissan Versa had struck a pedestrian and the driver fled the scene. Apparently, the motorist was driving behind the pedestrian before making an unsafe right turn and hitting him. Paramedics sadly pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Officers found the driver at a residence nearby and arrested them. They have been charged on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, felony hit and run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.
The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Desmond Gallagher of Lake Elsinore.
