Los Banos, CA (August 22, 2024) A horrible collision in Los Banos occurred on Tuesday night, August 20th, 2024. A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 cost a 21-year-old man his life and left another, identified as Jaylene Lasarga, with serious injuries, officers reported. It all took place north of Nees Avenue, right around 11:00 p.m.
A Dodge was driving south on Interstate 5 in Los Banos at a high rate of speed, officers said. A 2023 Volvo had stopped as the Dodge approached at a high speed. The Dodge tried to avoid hitting the Volvo by swerving, but still managed to collide with the Volvo’s trailer, according to the CHP. The 21-year-old driver of the Dodge lost control and went off the road and onto the shoulder of Interstate 5.
The driver of the Volvo called 911 and the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene within minutes. They found the Dodge on the side of the road and quickly checked it, as well as the Volvo, to see if anyone was in need of medical aid. Sadly, they found the driver of the Dodge unresponsive, officers reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene and officers waited for the coroner to arrive.

Jaylene Lasarga was a passenger in the Dodge. She sustained serious injuries, including a major leg injury. She was airlifted to Memorial North Hospital in Modesto where she remains in serious condition.
