Downey, CA (July 26, 2024) A two-vehicle collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck occurred on Thursday morning, leaving at least one person with injuries. It happened on Interstate 105, near the off ramp to Lakewood Boulevard. Officers reported that the accident occurred around 10:20 a.m. and disrupted the flow of traffic.
A white Nissan pickup truck was driving along Interstate 105 in Downey on Thursday morning, when it collided with a semi-truck. The cause of this collision is still unknown, officers reported. The accident occurred near the Lakewood Boulevard off-ramp. The force from the collision sent the pickup truck toward the interstate’s center divide, where it finally came to a stop. The semi-truck, however, came to a stop on the right side of the interstate. Debris landed all over the interstate, causing even more traffic issues, the California Highway Patrol reported.
When officers with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, they found the two vehicles on opposite sides of the interstate. A trail of debris laid between them on the roadway. The Downey City Fire Department was requested and arrived at the scene within minutes. Paramedics found at least one person with significant injuries and transported them to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. The number of people injured, as well as the extent of injuries, is all unknown at this time.
Officers continue to investigate this accident in an effort to better understand what happened on Interstate 105 in Downey. They are determined to figure out who was responsible for this accident, as well. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove at least one of the vehicles from the freeway and crews worked to clear the debris from the roadway so traffic could resume normally.
