Fresno, CA (June 11, 2024) A cloud of sadness covered the community of Fresno on Friday night as news spread of a bicyclist dying in an accident with a truck. It was June 7th when the 40-year-old rider was struck by the truck just before 11:30 p.m. on Clinton Avenue, not far from Highway 99. The rider was taken to a local hospital where he later died, officers reported.
A 40-year-old man was riding a bicycle east on Clinton Avenue on Friday night, June 7th. As he rode, a truck was traveling in the same direction and approached the bicyclist. Without any warning, the truck struck the bicyclist near Highway 99, according to reports. The rider was thrown from his bicycle and landed on the hard ground. The bicycle was bent and destroyed and laid several feet from the rider. The driver of the truck immediately pulled over and called 911, reports indicated.
Police officers and paramedics drove through Fresno with sirens wailing and emergency lights flashing until they arrived at the scene. They found the bicyclist on the ground with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics began life-saving measures and the man was rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe and he succumbed to them shortly after arriving at the hospital. Sadly, authorities there pronounced the rider dead at the hospital.
Detectives investigated the scene and spoke with the driver involved. They are working diligently to determine what exactly happened on Clinton Avenue that night in Fresno. At this point, they don’t know if speed, impairment or visibility were factors in this fatal accident. The bicycle was a dented and damaged mess and had to be hauled away from the scene.
