Castro Valley, CA (May 31, 2024) A bicyclist is lucky to be alive following a serious collision on May 30th in Castro Valley. As the rider rode the bike along Seven Hills Road, it was struck by a vehicle not far from Castro Valley Community Park, reports indicated. The collision occurred at approximately 10:23 a.m. and left the bicyclist with serious injuries.
As reports came in of an accident between a bicycle and a vehicle, officers have stated that it is unfortunate that no bike lanes exist on Seven Hills Road. A bicyclist was riding along Seven Hills Road when they were suddenly struck by a gray Toyota Prius near Quail Avenue, according to reports. The force from the collision threw the rider from the bicycle and they landed in the middle of the roadway. The bicycle fell to the ground, dented and damaged from the accident.
Emergency personnel hurried to the scene and found the bicyclist on the ground, alive but seriously injured. Paramedics evaluated the victim and gently placed them on a stretcher, strapping them on securely. They placed the victim in the ambulance and the rider was rushed to Eden Hospital to receive further emergency treatment. The driver of the Prius remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers following the accident. Officers stated that Seven Hills Road is a very narrow road with stop signs, but unfortunately there are no marked bicycle lanes.
Officers gathered evidence at the scene and took statements from those in the area at the time of the accident. At this time, it is unknown what exactly transpired on Seven Hills Road in Castro Valley. Officers are determined to figure out what caused this accident and who was at fault.
