San Mateo County, CA (May 29, 2024) 28-year-old Joaquin Dominik Jimenez Alvarado was struck and killed by a pickup truck while riding his motorcycle on May 26th. Alvarado was the son of Half Moon Bay Mayor, Joaquin Jimenez, according to reports. The tragic collision occurred on Highway 1 in San Mateo County at approximately 5:45 p.m. Many citizens have complained about this area being dangerous for pedestrians, bikers and motorists.

Initial reports indicated that the pickup truck was attempting to make a left turn from Highway 1 onto Miranda Road when it collided with Alvarado’s motorcycle. The motorcycle went under the pickup truck and ended up being “lodged” beneath the truck, according to a resident who witnessed the accident.

Volunteer firefighters in the area were the first ones to arrive at the scene, officers said. They found Alvarado on the ground, motionless, with his motorcycle smashed and twisted beneath the pickup truck. They immediately began performing life-saving measures on Alvarado, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

When the Sheriff’s Department arrived, the firefighters gave them the tragic news. They found the driver of the pickup truck waiting and said he cooperated with them during their investigation. Officers are still trying to figure out what exactly occurred on Saturday that led to this fatal accident. The tow truck had to be hauled away from the scene and pieces of debris had to be swept from the roadway.

City Hall now has a bouquet of flowers that were left by heart-broken citizens following the collision. Joaquin Alvarado was a Union Stationary Engineer in San Francisco, according to his family. They said he loved photography and spending time with friends and family. He will be missed by family, friends and the community he left behind.
