Bakersfield, CA (May 13, 2024) Sad news spread through Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon, following the death of two motorcyclists near Miracle Hot Springs. The fatal crash occurred on Highway 178 just after 4:00 p.m. and claimed the lives of the 77-year-old driver and his 75-year-old passenger, according to reports.
Two people were riding on a motorcycle near the Kern River, on Highway 178, in Bakersfield on Sunday, May 12th. For reasons unknown, the driver lost control of the motorcycle. It swerved and left the roadway before heading down a steep embankment at a high speed. Both occupants were thrown from the motorcycle during the collision, reports indicated.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the motorcycle along with its two occupants at the bottom of the embankment. The motorcycle was laying on its side and the two people were on the ground, motionless. Officers hurried down the embankment to see if they needed medical attention. Unfortunately, both riders were killed in the accident. With heavy hearts, authorities pronounced both riders dead at the scene and called for the coroner.
