Lake Balboa, CA (May 4, 2024) A traumatic hit-and-run accident in Lake Balboa on Friday night left a bicyclist with fatal injuries. 41-year-old Jose Pineda was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene, officers reported. The devastating collision occurred just after 8:00 p.m., not too far from Van Nuys. Pineda was struck on Woodley Avenue between Victory Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard. The driver fled the scene, leaving the 41-year-old victim with life-threatening injuries.

It was the evening of Friday, May 3rd, as Jose Pineda rode his bike along Woodly Avenue. As he pedaled, vehicles drove by him with no issues, until one vehicle approached at a high speed. A silver SUV was speeding down the road and before Pineda could react or move out of the way, the vehicle hit him. The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop or even slow down. They kept their foot on the gas and continued speeding down Woodley Avenue.

Officer Drake Madison said the victim was found lying in the roadway and the bicycle was laying several feet from him. Officers rushed to his side, fearing the worst, and found him unresponsive. There was nothing they could do. Sadly, they pronounced Jose Pineda dead at the scene and called for a coroner.

Officers gathered evidence and told City News Service that they are looking for a silver SUV. Reports indicated that it was traveling south on Woodley Avenue following this fatal hit-and-run collision.
