Bakersfield, CA (April 16, 2024) A three-vehicle collision on Highway 65 in Bakersfield claimed one person’s life on April 13th. The collision claimed the life of a 21-year-old Jaqueline Orosco, who was a resident of Bakersfield, according to reports. It all happened right around 5:00 p.m., east of Delano and south of Highway 155, the California Highway Patrol said.

A Toyota was traveling north on Highway 65 in Bakersfield when a Ford truck crossed the double yellow line and ended up going the wrong-way. The Toyota was broad-sided by the Ford, which caused the driver of the Ford to lose control. It then collided with a Honda that was behind the Toyota, heading north.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the three damaged vehicles blocking the highway. They quickly searched the three vehicles to see if anyone was injured. Unfortunately, they found the passenger of the Toyota, a 21-year-old woman, deceased. She was pronounced dead at the scene and the Kern County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene.

A few other people were injured in this collision as well. Paramedics at the scene rushed people with moderate to severe injuries to local hospitals to receive emergency medical attention. The exact number of those injured hasn’t been released at this time.

Officers are trying to determine what caused the Ford to go the wrong way on Highway 65. Tow trucks were also called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles from the highway and crews worked to clear the roadway of debris and glass. At this time, officers are uncertain if drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision.
