Mokelumne Hill, CA (April 16, 2024) A head-on crash occurred on Tuesday morning in Mokelumne Hill, leaving one person with injuries. It all happened on Highway 49 at approximately 8:00 a.m. in Calaveras County. The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision happened near Big Bar Road in the area of 13 Corners, not far from the Amador County line.
The two-vehicle accident occurred when one of the cars drifted into oncoming traffic on Highway 49, officers said. The two vehicles slammed into each other, head-on, at fairly high rates of speed. The collision left the two vehicles in the middle of the highway, blocking traffic, reports indicated.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles in the middle of the road, with traffic backed up, trying to go around them. Both vehicles had sustained major damage in the crash and debris and glass were all over the roadway.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found one person with injuries following this collision. However, there is no other information regarding this victim’s injuries or whether or not they were hospitalized. Officers had to call for tow trucks to come to the scene and remove both vehicles from the highway, officers said. Detectives took statements and investigated the scene. They are determined to figure out what exactly caused this collision and who was at fault.
