North Las Vegas, NV (April 13, 2024) Shock spread through the community of North Las Vegas early on Saturday morning as news spread of a fatal hit-and-run. The collision occurred on 5th Street, not far from Brooks Avenue, just after midnight, on April 13th, authorities reported. The driver then fled the scene, but was later apprehended by police officers.
For reasons still unknown, a woman in her 30s, was in the roadway, according to reports. A black 2019 Dodge Charger was heading south on 5th Street when it ran over the woman. However, instead of stopping, as law requires, the driver continued driving. The woman was left behind with life-threatening injuries, officers said.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian lying in the road. Officers found her unresponsive and, sadly, pronounced her dead at the scene. Instead of calling paramedics, officers called the Clark County Coroner’s Office. It was obvious the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle, officers said.
They searched the area for the vehicle that hit the woman and hoped to also find the driver responsible. The North Las Vegas Police Department said they found the black Dodge Charger with front-end damage. After finding the vehicle, officers located the driver, 24-year-old Donald Boike. He was taken into custody and placed in the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center, facing hit-and-run charges, reports indicated. Officers investigating this fatal hit-and-run accident have determined that Boike was speeding at the time of the collision.
