Burbank, CA (January 17, 2024) A hit-and-run accident in Burbank left a 77-year-old bicyclist with serious injuries, according to authorities. The collision happened at the intersection of Oxnard Street and Clybourn Avenue around 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16th.
The bicyclist was heading south on Clybourn Avenue, riding on the east sidewalk of the street, according to reports. As the bicyclist entered the intersection, he was hit by a black sedan that was driving east on Oxnard. The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop, but instead kept driving.

Emergency crews arrived to find the man and his damaged bicycle laying on the ground. Paramedics hurried to give medical aid to the bicyclist, and took him to a local hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. In a statement, Burbank Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Stephen Turner said, “The Bicyclist sustained major injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to a local trauma center where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.”
Detectives from the Burbank Police Department reported that they reviewed hours of surveillance video and were able to identify the vehicle involved. They located the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Alexander Saenz, on January 25th at approximately 10:15 p.m. in the 100 block of South First Street, Sgt. Turner said. Officers questioned Saenz and he admitted to hitting the bicyclist and driving away from the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury is being held without bail, Sgt. Turner said.
Authorities have also reported that the bicyclist remains in the hospital in critical condition following this accident.
