(Los Angeles, California) A 45-year-old man dies in a hit-and-run vehicle crash in South Park neighborhood at around 11:05 p.m.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a gray vehicle going northbound on Broadway struck the man while he was at a crosswalk on 54th street. The vehicle then left the scene on 53rd street, traveling eastbound.

Police officers arrived at the scene to investigate the collision as a medical examiner tent was set up. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 45-year-old man was described as homeless and his identity is unknown.

Legal Analysis on the South Park Vehicle Crash

Because the gray vehicle struck the 45 year-old, investigators may review California Vehicle Code 20001(a) as it prohibits drivers involved in a vehicle crash, flee the scene after another person (s) was injured or has died.

The gray vehicle will likely face punishments listed in California Vehicle Code 20001(2). Based on this law, you can be imprisoned in a state prison for 2 to 4 years for at least 90 days and up to a year, get fined anywhere between $1,000 to $10,000 dollars or face both imprisonment and fines

If the driver was under the influence of alcohol, they may have violated California Vehicle Code 23152 (a) in which it prohibits driving under the influence of any alcoholic beverages. This is an important factor as it’s common for drunk drivers to flee a deadly collision before law enforcement arrives. These correlations can also help investigators determine what the illegal limit of BAC is by reviewing California Vehicle Code 23152 (b) which also prohibits driving under the influence of 0.08% or more, by weight of BAC.

    Advice for the Family

If the pedestrian was a loved one of yours, it is important to receive comfort through counseling, family, or friends while grieving your loss. If you want to contact the Los Angeles Police Department for any additional information about the hit-and-run collision, you can request informational documents. Legally filing against a defendant can be stressful, so it’s best to contact an attorney or lawyers who have taken and understands cases like yours.
