(Agua Dulce, California) 85,000 Pounds of fuel in a tanker collides with a Sedan vehicle in an incorporated Agua Dulce area in Los Angeles.

California Highway Patrol confirmed that the collision was reported at 3:19 a.m., northbound of Antelope Valley, south of Escondido Canyon Road. They also closed lanes 2, 3 and 4 for about 2 hours. After the collision, the sedan came to a rest against the big rig. The truck had a broken rear axle.

California Highway Patrol also confirmed that oil spilled in lane 2, 3 and 4. Both drivers were able to get out of their vehicle and were located on the right shoulder. One declined to be taken to a hospital.

Officers requested the absorbent to clean the 100-foot slick on the roadway.

The cause of the collision has not been identified, nor the victim’s name.

Perspective of the 85,000 Pounds of Fuel Collision

Investigators of this case may review Rules Of The Road law, Miscellaneous Health and Safety Provisions. They may also review Equipment of Vehicle law to identify what the Sedan driver or truck driver violated.

In relation to the truck, investigators may want to review Miscellaneous Health and Safety Provisions law §25507(a)(1)(A). This law discusses reporting requirements in businesses that work with hazardous materials. Requirements may require reporting when the amount present at any one time reaches 55 gallons for liquids, 500 pounds for solids, or 200 cubic feet for compressed gas. (2) of the code also mentions that it is a requirement to submit a chemical inventory information according to Section 11022 of Title 42 of the United States Code

In regards to the sedan vehicle, they may want to review the Rules of the Road law code, 21703. This code discusses that a motor vehicle should not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable or prudent due to the speed of vehicle and traffic upon as well as the condition of the roadway. If the sedan driver did not follow this rule then they may have violated this law.

Investigators may want to also identify if the vehicle where the tanker was held onto,  followed the Equipment Of Vehicles law code, 27903 (a). This code states that vehicles carrying dangerous materials like explosive, blasting agent, flammable liquid, flammable solid, oxidizing material, corrosive, compressed gas, poison, radioactive material, or other hazardous materials placards or markings on the vehicle exterior by the United States Department of Transportation.
