(Long Beach, CA) A woman was struck and killed Saturday night, December 27, in a Cedar Avenue collision near West Pacific Coast Highway.

Officers responded around 8:45 p.m. and found that a 2013 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on PCH had hit a woman walking southbound in the marked crosswalk. Paramedics transported her to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No additional details about the victim have been released.

Analysis on the Cedar Avenue Collision

Because the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk, investigators may apply the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law. This statute requires drivers to yield to pedestrians who are lawfully crossing in marked crosswalks. In reviewing the Cedar Avenue collision, officers will examine factors such as lighting, visibility, and driver attention to understand how the impact occurred.

Even when a pedestrian has the right of way, analysts often reference the Basic Speed Law, which mandates that drivers operate at speeds that are reasonable for roadway and traffic conditions. Nighttime travel on PCH may require additional caution, and investigators will assess whether speed limited the driver’s ability to stop in time.

Additionally, investigators may consider the Distracted Driving Law. Although officers noted the driver cooperated, reviewing phone use or distraction remains standard practice in serious crosswalk collisions. This helps determine whether inattention contributed to the Cedar Avenue collision.

    Guidance for the Family

If your loved one was the victim, you may want to request the Long Beach Police Department’s collision report once available. It will provide key details about the findings and assist with next steps.

Consider speaking with a wrongful death attorney who can explain options related to funeral expenses, insurance matters, or other potential claims.

Lean on friends, family, and local grief support organizations during this difficult time. Compassionate resources can help you navigate the days ahead.
