(Sacramento, CA) Nine people were injured Wednesday afternoon, October 29, in a Belden Street accident involving a school bus and a pickup truck in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood, authorities said.

According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. in the 3900 block of Belden Street. Authorities learned a Toyota Tacoma collided with a school bus. After impact, the pickup truck continued forward and struck a shed, officials said.

Home surveillance video shared with local media showed the front of the bus making contact with the truck. Witnesses said several children climbed out of the truck immediately after the crash. The California Highway Patrol reported that nine people were injured: two on the school bus and seven in the truck. The driver and six passengers in the truck were all teenagers, officials said. One student and the bus driver were taken to a hospital in an unknown condition, while the other students were evaluated and released.

Overview on the Belden Street Accident

In multi-vehicle collisions near intersections, investigators often review the Stop Sign Law. It requires drivers to come to a complete stop at posted stop signs and proceed only when it is safe. If a driver ran a stop sign or failed to yield, it could have contributed to this crash.

Because witnesses mentioned possible speeding, the Basic Speed Law may also be relevant. It prohibits driving faster than is safe for the conditions, regardless of the posted limit. Residential streets like Belden often require slower speeds to protect pedestrians and students.

If minors were driving or passengers were unrestrained, investigators could also reference the Child Passenger Safety Law. This statute mandates proper restraint systems for minors and is designed to reduce injuries in vehicle crashes. Each of these laws will help determine how the Belden Street accident occurred and whether violations were involved.

    Guidance for the Families

You should remain in contact with the Sacramento Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol, or the Twin Rivers School District for updates on the investigation and the recovery of those injured. Keeping hospital and medical records organized will be important for follow-up care.

If your child or loved one was injured, consider consulting with an attorney experienced in school transportation or multi-vehicle accidents. They can help you understand your legal rights and possible next steps.

Finally, prioritize healing and emotional support. Crashes involving children can be especially distressing—lean on family, friends, and local counseling resources in Sacramento to help your loved ones recover both physically and emotionally.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
