(Chula Vista, CA) Two men were injured Wednesday night, October 30, in a Main Street crash that may have involved a drunk driver, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

Officers responded around 7:50 p.m. to the intersection of Main Street and La Media Parkway after reports of a two-vehicle collision. Police said a white Mercury Sable traveling east on Main Street struck a black Ford Bronco heading south on La Media.

Authorities arrested the driver of the Mercury, identified as Andrew Coronado, 26, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Paramedics transported him to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The 31-year-old driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and cooperated with investigators, authorities said.

Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the CVPD Traffic Bureau at 619-476-5302.

Overview on the Main Street Crash

In cases where authorities suspect impaired driving, investigators refer to the DUI Causing Injury or Death Law. This statute makes it a felony to operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and cause bodily harm to another person. Convictions under this law carry severe penalties, especially when serious injuries are involved.

If speed or reckless behavior contributed, the Basic Speed Law may also apply. It requires drivers to maintain a speed that is safe for current road, traffic, and weather conditions. Even within posted limits, driving too fast while impaired significantly increases the risk of a crash.

Additionally, the Reckless Driving Law can be considered. It prohibits driving with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property. These statutes will guide CVPD investigators as they determine the full circumstances of the Main Street crash.

    Guidance for the Families

You should stay in contact with the Chula Vista Police Department’s Traffic Bureau for updates on the investigation and any potential charges filed. Requesting the official collision report can provide clarity once the case moves forward.

If your loved one was injured, consider consulting with an attorney experienced in DUI and injury collisions. They can help you understand your rights, assist with insurance matters, and explore legal options for recovery.

Above all, prioritize healing and support. Lean on family, friends, and community resources in Chula Vista as you navigate the physical and emotional recovery process following this serious crash.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
