(Santa Ana, CA) On Tuesday, October 7, at about 10:45 p.m., the West Warner Avenue crash near South Broadway left Richardson Ayala, 67, of Anaheim dead and two others injured as officials worked to secure the scene and determine what led to the collision.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department and City News Service, the crash involved a food truck and a Chevrolet Trailblazer in the 200 block of West Warner Avenue. As a result, the impact caused the food truck to overturn, trapping the Ayala inside. Responding officers and firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene. When paramedics arrived, they transported two other individuals to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

Authorities said the cause of the collision remains under investigation. The roadway was temporarily closed late Tuesday night while crews removed debris and investigators gathered evidence.

We extend our condolences to the victim’s family as the investigation continues.

Overview of the West Warner Avenue Crash

Police investigations following multi-vehicle collisions often focus on impact speed, direction of travel, and roadway conditions. In this case, Santa Ana detectives are continuing to collect data and witness statements to determine the events leading to the fatal crash.

Under Vehicle Code 22350, the Basic Speed Law, all motorists must operate their vehicles at speeds safe for current road and traffic conditions. If authorities confirm impairment, then Vehicle Code 23152 applies. This prohibits driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which investigators may assess as part of standard procedure.

These statutes guide how police review the circumstances surrounding the West Warner Avenue crash, ensuring that findings align with California’s traffic safety standards.
