(Indio, CA) A vehicle pinned a pedestrian and seriously injured two people in a Clinton Street crash in Indio.

On Sunday, August 17, at about 12:10 p.m., the Clinton Street crash occurred. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, firefighters dispatched near the intersection of Clinton Street and Miles Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they found a pedestrian pinned. Reportedly, a prior crash caused one of the vehicles to veer off the roadway. After fire crews extricated the pedestrian, they transported one person with serious injuries and another with minor injuries. Currently, there is no identifying information on any of the people involved.

Legal Opinion of the Clinton Street Crash

A lawyer speaking with a client regarding an accident.

The Clinton Street crash that left a pedestrian pinned highlights how quickly roadway negligence can harm those on foot. According to reports, an initial collision caused one of the vehicles to veer off the roadway and strike the pedestrian. This raises issues under California Vehicle Code 22107, which requires drivers not to turn or move from a direct course until it is safe. VEH 22350 prohibits driving at a speed greater than is reasonable for conditions. When a driver loses control and leaves the roadway, it often points to excessive speed, inattention, or failure to maintain safe spacing.

Pedestrians have strong protections under California law. Drivers must always have a duty of due care to avoid striking people on or near the roadway under VEH 21954. Since a separate collision affected the pedestrian, both the at-fault driver in the first crash and the vehicle that veered off course may share responsibility. The seriously injured pedestrian has the right to pursue a personal injury claim. They can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and any long-term care needs. The person with minor injuries may also bring a claim for their losses. If the evidence shows multiple drivers contributed to the Clinton Street crash, liability can be divided between them. California’s comparative negligence system allows victims to recover damages even if fault is shared, with recovery reduced according to each party’s percentage of responsibility.

    What the Victim Can Do

The pedestrian should consult a personal injury attorney regarding the Clinton Street crash immediately. The attorney can obtain the Riverside County Fire Department’s police reports and secure any nearby surveillance or traffic camera footage. Photographs of the crash site, including skid marks and vehicle positions, will be important in reconstructing how the vehicle left the roadway. Because multiple drivers may be at fault, the attorney can identify all available insurance policies to maximize recovery. Acting quickly will ensure the evidence is preserved, liability is established, and the injured pedestrian and their family receive the support and compensation needed to deal with the lasting impact of this collision.
