(Thousand Palms, CA) A 62-year-old man was killed in an Interstate 10 accident involving multiple vehicles Tuesday morning, April 14.
The crash was reported shortly before 7:50 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 10, west of Washington Street. Investigators said a big rig traveling eastbound veered left for unknown reasons, crossed through a guardrail, and entered the westbound lanes. The truck then collided with a cement truck and a Jeep, while also striking several vehicles along the eastbound side.
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced the driver of the cement truck, a 62-year-old man from Yucca Valley, dead at the scene. The driver of the big rig, identified as a 38-year-old man from Menifee, sustained major injuries. Paramedics transported him to Desert Regional Medical Center. Six others sustained injuries, with three suffering moderate injuries and two sustaining minor injuries.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate what caused the big rig to veer off course. Additional details remained unknown as the investigation continued.
