(Tucson, Arizona) On September 27th, a motor crash occurred on interstate 10 near Benson involving an Arizona DPS with a semi-truck.
According to DPS, the trooper was hospitalized with significant injuries but the truck driver was in stable conditions. The ADOT confirmed that the collision occurred on the 1-10 eastbound near mile marker 302 at approximately 9 a.m. The semi-truck was caught on fire but the truck driver is in stable condition
The crash caused the roadway to temporarily shut down until 7 p.m.
Legal Analysis on the Interstate 10 near Benson
There is little information about this collision so we can only assume so much. Based on the semi-truck getting caught on fire, it’s possible that speed’s strong impact caused the vehicle to get caught on fire. If that was the case, investigators may review A.R.S 28-701 to which it prohibits driving at 65 mph or more. If one of the drivers or both were speeding they may be fined $338 under common traffic violations.
If one of the drivers were carrying a hazard material that can cause a fire, investigators may review A.R.S 28-1523 to which it requires a place card when carrying a hazardous material in a vehicle, carrying substance or waste. Failing to do so can result in class 2 misdemeanor with a penalty of $750, stated under A.R.S 13-802
