      Woman Pushing Shopping Cart Killed In Merced County Collision

      Merced County, CA (August 8, 2024) A pedestrian tragically lost her life on Tuesday night, August 6th, when she was struck by a vehicle in Merced County. The accident occurred one Merced Avenue, near Delhi Avenue and Bloss Avenue around 9:30 p.m., according to reports. The woman, who was pushing a shopping cart at the time of the accident, sustained fatal injuries.

      A woman pushed a shopping cart along the right dirt shoulder of Merced Avenue on Tuesday night. As she walked, a vehicle approached her, driven by a 50-year-old man. Suddenly, the vehicle struck the woman, officers reported. The force sent her to the ground and knocked over the shopping cart she was pushing. The driver of the vehicle told officers that the woman suddenly began pushing the cart onto the roadway directly in front of him. He said he had no time to brake or swerve to avoid hitting the pedestrian.

      When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found the woman on the ground and rushed to her side, ready to give life-saving medical treatment. Sadly, they discovered that she had been killed in the accident, according to reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Officers reported that the driver of the vehicle was cooperative following this fatal accident in Merced County.

      Investigators gathered evidence and are working to better understand what happened on Merced Avenue that night in August. The shopping cart and all of its contents had to be removed from the scene, reports indicated. Officers are diligently trying to figure out what caused this pedestrian’s death. They have reported that this accident remains under investigation.
