(Commerce, CA) A pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday evening, December 7, in a West Whittier Boulevard crash in the city of Commerce.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. near West Whittier Boulevard and Williamson Avenue. Responding officers found the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from fatal injuries.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. It was not immediately clear whether the driver involved stopped at the scene as required by law.

The CHP East Los Angeles Office is investigating the cause of the crash and has asked anyone with information to come forward.

Overview on the West Whittier Boulevard Crash

When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, investigators typically review several California traffic laws to determine fault. The Hit-and-Run Statute requires drivers involved in any injury or fatal crash to remain on scene, render aid, and contact law enforcement. Leaving the scene constitutes a felony hit-and-run.

The Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law mandates that drivers yield to pedestrians crossing the roadway within any marked or unmarked crosswalk, while also requiring pedestrians to exercise due care for their safety.

Finally, the Basic Speed Law prohibits driving at speeds unsafe for current conditions. This includes factors such as poor visibility or pedestrian activity. These laws will guide investigators as they determine what led to the West Whittier Boulevard crash.

    Support for the Family

The family of the victim should remain in contact with the California Highway Patrol’s East Los Angeles Area Office. They can provide updates and a copy of the official collision report once available. This report will contain critical details about the investigation and may assist with any insurance or legal matters.

Families affected by fatal pedestrian accidents may also qualify for assistance from the California Victim Compensation Board, which helps cover funeral costs, counseling, and other related expenses.

Additionally, consider speaking with a wrongful-death attorney experienced in pedestrian accident cases. Legal guidance can help families understand their rights and pursue any available claims for justice and financial recovery.

During this difficult time, local grief counseling and victim support services in Los Angeles County can provide comfort and resources to help families cope with the devastating loss caused by the West Whittier Boulevard crash.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
