North Highlands, CA (January 31, 2024) Tragedy struck North Highlands on January 25th when 42-year-old Violetta Seraya was fatally hit by a vehicle. It happened at the intersection of Elkhorn Boulevard and Walerga Road at approximately 9:43 p.m. Although the vehicle had a green light when they drove through the intersection, they didn’t stop after hitting the pedestrian, authorities reported. They drove away, leaving the woman lying alone in the intersection with life-threatening injuries.
It was a dark Thursday night in North Highlands as Seraya walked along a sidewalk. She reached the intersection of Elkhorn Boulevard and Walerga Road and began crossing the street within a crosswalk, officers said. As she crossed, a vehicle came through the intersection on a green light and hit Seraya as she walked. The driver of the vehicle did not stop, but instead continued driving until they disappeared into the darkness of night.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found Seraya lying in the intersection with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics did everything they could to save her, but she ended up succumbing to her injuries. Sadly, Violetta Seraya was pronounced dead at the scene by officials.
Seraya’s daughte, Mariam, is angry about this accident and is pleading with the suspect to come forward. “How do you have no remorse? How do you not, like, at least stop?” She said in an interview. The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with the funeral expenses as they navigate through their grief and anger.
Officers reported that they are looking for a four-door sedan, possibly gray in color, that was involved in this fatal accident. They are asking for anyone with information to contact the California Highway Patrol.
