(Reseda, CA) A 30-year-old man died while exiting his vehicle in a Victory Boulevard hit and run collision in Reseda.

On Friday, August 22, at about 8:05 p.m., the Victory Boulevard hit and run collision occurred. According to Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Detectives, it happened on Victory Boulevard, west of Belmar Avenue.

Upon investigating, authorities learned a 30-year-old man parked on the side of the street. As he stepped out, a black compact SUV driving westbound veered to the right and struck him. The SUV continued driving west on Victory, turning north onto Corbin Avenue. By the time Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the crash site, they pronounced the man dead. Police have no suspect description at this time. Anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run is urged to contact Valley Traffic Division Detective Otrosina at 818-644-8036 or Detective Martinez at 818-644-8033. Tipsters who choose to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

Legal Opinion on the Victory Boulevard Hit and Run Collision

A lawyer speaks to a client regarding an accident.

The Victory Boulevard hit and run collision reflects a serious violation of California law. The driver never stopped to help and continued west on Victory Boulevard. Fleeing the site of a fatal collision is a felony under California Vehicle Code 20001. This law requires any driver involved in a crash that causes injury or death to immediately stop and contact law enforcement. Failing to stop and leaving the victim behind is a clear breach of this duty and carries serious legal consequences.

The driver also likely violated VEH 21658, which requires vehicles to stay within their lane unless a safe lane change is made. Veering right onto the shoulder or parked area of the road suggests the driver was either distracted, speeding, or not in full control. The fact that the man had just exited his vehicle makes the driver’s responsibility even greater. VEH 467 considers anyone who is on their feet on a street a pedestrian. Drivers must always be alert to pedestrians near or around parked cars, particularly in urban areas like Victory Boulevard.

    What the Family Can Do

The family of the man who died in the Victory Boulevard hit and run collision can pursue a wrongful death claim under California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. This allows a spouse, children, or parents to seek compensation for funeral costs, loss of companionship, and the financial support the victim would have provided.

Even though police have not identified the suspect driver, the family can still take legal steps. A wrongful death attorney can work closely with LAPD detectives to gather evidence. They can collect security footage from nearby businesses, eyewitness statements, or potential license plate recognition data.

If the suspect remains unidentified, the family may also be able to file a claim through the victim’s auto insurance under an uninsured motorist provision. Many policies include coverage for hit-and-run crashes, even when authorities haven’t located the suspect. Time is critical. Acting quickly allows the family’s attorney to preserve evidence and coordinate with investigators while the trail is still fresh. Legal action cannot bring the victim back, but it can offer some justice and support for those left behind.

We at Accident News Now extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim. We know this is a difficult time as you mourn the tragic and sudden loss of a loved one. If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this horrible incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
