Sand Canyon, CA (June 18, 2024) A traumatic collision occurred in the community of Sand Canyon On Monday night, according to reports. Two juveniles were riding horses along San Canyon Road when they were struck by a vehicle. The juveniles sustained injuries in the accident and, sadly, both of the horses were killed. It all happened at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers reported.
The sun was beginning to set as two juveniles rode horses along Sand Canyon Road on Monday night, June 17th. They weren’t too far from Millmeadow Road in Canyon County as a Nissan sedan approached them on the road. For reasons that are still unknown to police officers, the Nissan struck the two horses. The impact sent the juveniles flying off the horses as the animals were knocked to the ground.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrived at the scene and found the horses on the ground, the juveniles at their sides. The impact had damaged the Nissan and the two horses were dead, officials said. Paramedics hurried to the juveniles and found that both boys had sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. They were both upset over the loss of the horses, officers indicated.
The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers during their investigation. The front of the Nissan sedan had sustained significant damage from the collision and the driver gave their statements or the police officers at the scene. Officers gathered as much evidence as they could find at the scene and a large animal disposal service was called to remove the horses from the roadway, reports indicated. Officers do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in this traumatic collision in Sand Canyon.
