Overview on the Travis Boulevard Collision

In cases involving a suspected impaired driver, investigators examine several key traffic laws to determine potential violations. The Driving Under the Influence Law prohibits operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. A conviction under this statute carries severe penalties, particularly when impairment leads to a fatal collision.

The Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated Statute may also apply when a driver’s intoxication directly causes another person’s death. This law distinguishes between gross negligence and ordinary negligence, both of which carry significant criminal consequences.

Additionally, the Basic Speed Law requires drivers to travel at speeds safe for current road and visibility conditions. Even minor excess speed can worsen outcomes in DUI-related crashes like the Travis Boulevard collision.
