(Fairfield, CA) A pedestrian was struck and killed early Tuesday morning, November 18, in a Travis Boulevard collision involving a suspected drunk driver near the Interstate 80 overpass.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Travis Boulevard near the eastbound I-80 off-ramp. When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian unresponsive and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Police said the driver, 35-year-old Kyle Dolcee of Fairfield, remained at the scene. Officers arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. The pedestrian’s name has not yet been released pending family notification.

The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded and closed the roadway and off-ramp for several hours while collecting evidence and documenting the scene.

Overview on the Travis Boulevard Collision

In cases involving a suspected impaired driver, investigators examine several key traffic laws to determine potential violations. The Driving Under the Influence Law prohibits operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. A conviction under this statute carries severe penalties, particularly when impairment leads to a fatal collision.

The Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated Statute may also apply when a driver’s intoxication directly causes another person’s death. This law distinguishes between gross negligence and ordinary negligence, both of which carry significant criminal consequences.

Additionally, the Basic Speed Law requires drivers to travel at speeds safe for current road and visibility conditions. Even minor excess speed can worsen outcomes in DUI-related crashes like the Travis Boulevard collision.

    Support for the Family

If you are a family member of the victim, you should stay in touch with the Fairfield Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team to obtain updates and request the official collision report. This report can help you understand the findings and support any insurance or legal actions.

You may also want to consult a wrongful-death attorney who handles DUI crash cases. Legal counsel can explain your rights and assist with claims related to compensation, funeral expenses, and emotional loss.

Finally, seek emotional and practical support from community resources. Organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving and local grief counseling centers offer compassionate assistance to families coping with the loss of a loved one in tragic DUI collisions.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
