(Sacramento, CA) A 13-year-old girl sustained injuries in a Stallings Drive crash after a vehicle struck her and fled the scene Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, September 10, at about 8:00 a.m., the Stallings Drive crash occurred. According to Sacramento police, it happened along the 7500 block of Stallings Drive.

When officers arrived, they found the young girl suffering from minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Paramedics provided medical care, and authorities confirmed she is expected to recover. The driver did not stop after the collision and fled the area. Sacramento police launched an investigation and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect involved in the Stallings Drive crash.

Hit and runs are a serious and delicate situation. The state of California takes these cases very seriously. It’s important for all drivers to know what to do in a hit-and-run.

Legal Opinion on the Stallings Drive Crash

A lawyer speaks to a client regarding an accident.

The Stallings Drive crash involves a serious violation of California law. Even though the girl’s injuries were minor, the driver faces significant criminal and civil liability. The most direct statute is California Vehicle Code 20001, which makes it a felony to flee the scene of a crash that results in injury or death. Drivers must stop, provide aid, and contact authorities. By leaving a child injured, the driver committed a felony hit-and-run.

Since the victim was a pedestrian, California Vehicle Code 21950 also applies. This law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians crossing within crosswalks, whether marked or unmarked, and to exercise due care to avoid striking them. Even if the girl was not inside a marked crosswalk, the driver still had a duty to use caution. If speed contributed, California Vehicle Code 22350, the Basic Speed Law, may also be relevant. Drivers must travel at safe speeds for conditions, especially in neighborhoods where children are present.  Because the victim is a minor, her family may pursue a personal injury claim. This type of claim can help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, emotional trauma, and any future medical care if complications arise.

What the Victim and Her Family Can Do

The family should contact a personal injury attorney immediately. An attorney can help by obtaining the police report, speaking with witnesses, and securing any available surveillance or dashcam footage from the area. If the driver is identified, the family can pursue a civil claim in addition to the criminal case. This can provide financial support for the girl’s recovery, counseling, and any long-term needs related to the crash.

While the child’s injuries were fortunately not life-threatening, a hit-and-run is still a traumatic and criminal act. Taking swift legal action after the Stallings Drive crash will help the family pursue justice, accountability, and the support needed for her healing.
