Hesperia, CA (July 23, 2024) 35-year-old Roberta Araiza was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in Hesperia on Monday morning, July 22nd. The deadly accident occurred around 5:20 a.m. near Maple Avenue, on Main Street, according to reports.
Araiza was walking along a Hesperia road before sunrise on Monday morning. Around 5:20 a.m., a vehicle was headed west and approached her. Officers are still not certain what happened on that road in the early morning hours. The vehicle ended up hitting Araiza as she walked along Main Street, reports indicated. The force sent Araiza through the air and she landed in the middle of the roadway, several feet away from the vehicle.

Dispatchers received the 911 calls and officers quickly arrived at the scene. They found Roberta Araiza on the ground, but she wasn’t moving, according to reports. Officers hurried to her side, only to discover that she had been killed in the collision. With heavy hearts, they pronounced her dead at the scene and called for a coroner. A tarp was gently placed over her body and officers had to close a section of Main Street.
Evidence was gathered and officers took a statement from the driver of the vehicle, who had remained at the scene. They cooperated with authorities during their investigation, which is ongoing, according to reports. Officers are determined to understand what happened to cause this fatal accident, as well as who was at fault.
