Costa Mesa, CA (March 6, 2024) A 47-year-old female pedestrian was struck and killed by a Rideshare driver in Costa Mesa on Sunday morning. The driver failed to stop and, instead, fled the scene, according to officers. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 12:25 a.m. at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Newport Boulevard.

Darkness covered the town of Costa Mesa as a woman walked along the road in the middle of the night. As she walked, a Rideshare car approached her. Whether or not the driver saw the pedestrian is unknown, however, the driver hit the woman and continued driving. He left the woman lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Paramedics loaded her into an ambulance and rushed her to a local hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian held on for a couple of days, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, March 5th, according to medical personnel. After fighting for her life for two days, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the Rideshare vehicle who was responsible for this hit-and-run fatality was later identified as 43-year-old Thomas Loranze Henry, an Ontario resident. He was arrested and now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter as well as felony hit-and-run charges. Officers reported that he was employed with a Rideshare service and was working at the time of the hit-and-run accident.
