Fresno, CA (June 5, 2024) The community of Fresno was left in shock as news spread of a pedestrian accident outside of an ARCO gas station. A woman in her 20s was struck by a vehicle and left with life-threatening injuries, according to reports. It all happened on Blackstone Avenue around 10:00 p.m. near Garland Avenue on Sunday night, June 2nd.
A vehicle was traveling north on Blackstone Avenue near the ARCO gas station as a female pedestrian was walking. It was right around 10:00 at night and the only light came from streetlights and headlights as vehicles passed. Suddenly, the vehicle struck the pedestrian near Garland Avenue, reports indicated. The force from the impact knocked the woman to the ground where she laid with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle stopped and waited with the victim until emergency crews arrived.
Sirens filled the night sky and flashing emergency lights grew brighter as emergency crews rushed to the scene. They found the driver and the vehicle and then saw the woman lying on the ground. She was still alive but has sustained very serious injuries in the accident. Paramedics loaded her into an ambulance and rushed her to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. She remains in critical condition, officers said.
The drive of the vehicle cooperated with officers during their investigation of this accident. Officers do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in this pedestrian accident. However, they did take the opportunity to remind drivers to be aware of their surroundings while driving. Officers continue to work this case in an effort to determine what exactly caused this accident on Blackstone Avenue in Fresno.
