Hollywood, CA (April 30, 2024) A cloud of sadness fell over Hollywood following a traumatic, chain reaction collision involving a police cruiser on Monday evening. It happened at the intersection of Gower Street and Santa Monica Boulevard right before 5:00 p.m. A vehicle hit a police cruiser, causing the cruiser to hit a pedestrian, reports indicated. The force from the impact also caused one vehicle to collide with other vehicles. A pedestrian was pinned under the police cruiser and, sadly, did not survive.

The intersection of Gower Street and Santa Monica Boulevard was quiet when, suddenly, a car heading west on Santa Monica Boulevard hit a police cruiser at the Hollywood intersection. The force from the collision sent the cruiser spinning through the intersection, where it hit a pedestrian. Once it came to a stop, the air bags had deployed and the pedestrian was found pinned under the patrol car, officers said. Two other vehicles were involved in this chain-reaction collision as well.

Paramedics quickly arrived at the scene and found the patrol car and a silver vehicle in the middle of the intersection. Both vehicles were sustained damage debris littered the intersection. Paramedics hurried to the police cruiser, where a pedestrian was pinned and seriously injured. Emergency crews worked together to carefully get the victim free and placed them on a stretcher. The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Six other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries in their chaotic accident, as well. However, it has not been revealed if any of them were taken to a hospital for further treatment.

One of the witnesses at the scene told KTLA5 that the police cruiser was honking and trying to clear the intersection. He said, “All the cars just stopped,” to get out of the cruiser’s way. “It happened really fast. The crash and police spin one time and hit me.”

Officers closed the intersection for several hours to investigate the scene. The debris also had to be cleaned from the roadway, reports indicated.
