Agua Dulce, CA (June 18, 2024) A chaotic and fatal collision occurred on Friday morning, June 14th, on the 14 Freeway in Agua Dulce. The collision occurred between at least three vehicles and left one pedestrian deceased. The accident wasn’t far from Escondido Canyon Road right around 1:20 a.m. A 17-year-old involved in the collision, fled the scene on foot, officers reported.
It was 1:20 in the morning on Interstate 14 in Agua Dulce as a two truck stopped to give assistance to a Honda Pilot SUV sitting on the shoulder. The driver of the vehicle was standing outside of the Honda, trying to figure out what had caused the vehicle to stop running. As the tow truck driver assisted the Honda driver, a vehicle approached them on the interstate. For reasons that are still unknown, the vehicle hit the Honda, which pushed it into the tow truck driver and the driver of the Honda. The force knocked them both down, according to reports.
The vehicle that struck the Honda stopped and a 17-year-old boy quickly got out of the vehicle and began running from the scene, leaving his vehicle behind. Someone managed to call 911 and the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office sent officers to the scene. Paramedics quickly began helping the two pedestrians who had been struck by the 17-year-old’s vehicle, as officers began trying to find the young driver who had fled. They eventually found him near Henry Mayo Hospital and arrested him. He now faces several charges.
The driver of the Honda was found with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics did everything they could to try and save the victim’s life, but their injuries were too severe. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers had to close a section of the freeway for several house as they investigated this tragic accident in Agua Dulce. They are working to understand exactly what caused this horrible accident.
