Westminster, CA (October 22, 2024) The community of Westminster is mourning the loss of a pedestrian this morning. The victim was killed by a hit-and-run driver just after 10:00 p.m. last night, October 21st, 2024. The fatality occurred on Westminster Boulevard, according to witnesses.
Darkness had settled over Westminster as a man walked along the streets. At approximately 10:18 p.m., he looked both ways and began crossing Westminster Boulevard. As he crossed, a silver sedan came speeding down Westminster Boulevard, heading east, right for the pedestrian. The man was in the middle of the street and had no time to get out of the way, according to witnesses. The sedan struck the man, throwing him several feet before he landed on the ground. The driver didn’t stop, but continued speeding down Westminster Boulevard.
Witnesses began calling 911 and the Orange County Fire Authority was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the man lying on the ground with fatal injuries. Sadly, authorities pronounced him dead at the scene and called for a coroner.
Update: The victim has been identified as Hoang Xuan Tran.
Officers gathered as much evidence as they could find at the scene and spoke to the witnesses. Although they do not have a description of the driver, they DO have a description of the vehicle, which gives them a start. They are determined to find the vehicle and, in turn, locate the driver and bring him or her to justice.
